About Axel

Axel co-leads McKinsey’s Automotive Practice in Greater China. He serves automotive OEMs and suppliers as well as technology companies. Axel focuses on disruptive technologies (like electric vehicles, clean technologies, infotainment), product development, and new business development. Prior to joining McKinsey, Axel advised private equity firms and worked in IT consulting.

Recent Engagements

Recent work includes defining an electric vehicle strategy in China for a leading multinational; supporting an advanced battery manufacturer in defining its automotive strategy; and helping develop Shanghai’s and New York City’s electric vehicle strategy.

Education

Axel earned a PhD in Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin. He received his Master’s degree in Business from the French Grande Ecole ESCP. Axel was a scholar of the State of Bavaria and the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes). Prior to joining McKinsey, Axel advised private equity firms and worked in IT consulting.
